DESCRIPTION:Discover Unexpected Productions’ philosophy of improvisation\, developed over our 43 years of improvising in Seattle! \nYou’ll learn how to actively listen\, to use your own life to create collaborative stories\, and you’ll work on the fundamental principles of improvisation: what it means to say\, “Yes\, And”\, how to tell stories that include everyone in the room\, how to stop worrying about failing\, and the games and concepts behind what we do on stages around the world! \nUnder the guidance of one of our best Seattle improv teachers\, you will learn to:· \n\nBe a Better Listener\nConquer Fears\nSpark Creativity\nMeet New People & Make New Friends\nBecome a Better Problem Solver\nGain Confidence·\nFail With Grace (and Maybe Even Enjoy It)\nSay Yes More in Your Life\nGet Out of Your Comfort Zone\nBecome a Better Public Speaker\nDiscover More About Yourself\n…and have a blast doing it!\n\nTime and Dates: Sundays for eight (8) weeks\, Starting 7/12\, 3:30pm to 6:00pm \nNOTE: Attendance at the first session of your course is mandatory as it sets the agenda for the entire quarter. If you think you will have to miss the first class\, please consider registering for the next quarter. \nNo Prerequisites. All students begin at this level\, even those with existing improv experience. While Shakespeare provides one historical foundation\, the emphasis is on learning how different styles shape character\, language\, movement\, and storytelling—and how to shift between them with confidence and play. \nThis is a practical\, hands-on class focused on experimentation\, adaptability\, and joyful risk-taking. \nWhat You’ll Do\nExplore a variety of theatrical styles through improvisation\, including \n\nClassical and heightened theatre\nShakespeare-inspired performance\nMelodrama and farce\nPhysical and movement-based theatre\nContemporary and genre-based stage styles\nLearn how style affects character\, language\, physicality\, and emotional stakes\nPractice transforming the same scene by changing theatrical style\nPerform improvised scenes and monologues with clear stylistic choices\nBuild versatility\, confidence\, and range as a theatrical improviser\n\nThis class is ideal for students who want to expand their expressive toolbox\, deepen their understanding of theatrical storytelling\, and become more adaptable performers.
