Unexpected Productions Improv School debuts its new educational series, Extra Credit, March 25, 2018, at 7:00 pm. During Extra Credit, a noted improviser, teacher or accomplished improv luminaries is insightfully interviewed by UP Improv’s Artistic Director, Randy Dixon. The night ends with a Q&A with the audience. The notable guest will discuss their craft and personal improv journey. The penetrating and fascinating insights cover improv impulses, styles, techniques, and history.
Extra Credit’s première guest is Roberta Maguire, Seattle's improv “godmother” and a founding member of Unexpected Productions Improv, as well as None of the Above, Seattle Improv, and Tabula Rasa. Maguire is a Second City alumni (1969-71) where she worked with the likes of John Belushi, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis. She was Second City's director of the Chicago touring company in 1972. She trained under improv legend Del Close. Maguire has taught and performed improv theater all over the US, and locally at Cornish College of the Arts, the University of Washington, Seattle Children's Theatre, and Centrum in Port Townsend. She is a co-founder of Chicago's Tony Award-winning Victory Gardens Theater, where she produced, directed and performed for many years.
